For the Epsilon Chapter of Sigma Phi - Cornell University
Sigma Phi Society at Cornell encourages its members to achieve academic and educational excellence. Through leadership opportunities within the Cornell and Sigma Phi community, these students develop skills and gather experiences that enrich their time on campus and aid in their professional and personal development after Cornell.
In 2008, Najib Canaan C’83 established the Canaan Fellowship award. This annual $4,000 grant is given to an eligible student at Sigma Phi to pursue educational, philanthropic, or public service interests. This unrestricted award is meant to inspire creative thinking and execution and to also benefit the wider Sigma Phi and Cornell community.
Full-time students in good standing with the university and with a minimum of one semester of in-house living are eligible to apply.
The funds can be used for lodging, travel, equipment, wages, publications, software or other materials that aid in the pursuit of the awardee’s interests. The funds can be the sole source of support or can supplement other funds and grants received for the student’s project. Upon completion of the project, the awardee must submit a short report to be published in both the Epsiloner newsletter and on the Society’s website. Inclusion of supplemental video and photograph is encouraged.
A detailed proposal describing the intended project is due March 15th to Glenn George C’82 at firstname.lastname@example.org. This description will include an expected timeline to the project and a general budget. Supporting third party materials describing the project or similar projects are welcome. Include your name, initiation year, email, cell phone. Be creative.
